Ask Alan how he thinks it should be implemented on the ntpd side?
Why this approach is reasonable, also for other platforms than Linux?
Why the change is acceptable, if it is a change at all.
Etc?


(with all due respect, I think we need a good explanation why things are
designed as they are on Linux)
