[LinuxPPS] ntpd synchronization issues

Hello list,

I'm still having (still = for more then a year) the problem, that after
following the manual on the LinuxPPS wiki, I have a working PPS enabled
kernel with ntpd using the pps interface, but, it takes 8-10 hours,
until offset and jitter from the pps source drop down to 0.00[3-8].

So therefor I'm still running a 2.4.33 kernel with PPSKit, which
synchronizes within max. 10 minutes.

As a matter of fact, It's getting harder to find hardware, that is
supported by that kernel (It's the last one, where there is a PPSKit
patch), so I am forced to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel.

Unfortunately my experience with LinuxPPS interface so far isn't as good
as the one I have with PPSKit because of the Jitter/Offset issue.

As from my readings through the mailing list, I can take, that many
people use it.

So my question is rather simple: Do you also have this problem? If yes,
how did you solve it?
Which distribution did you use?
Which hardware is the best?

Thank you for help,

Felix
