I would also consider using the kernel sources (that's what I do) plus the
patch

This is a merge of one of Rodolfo's most recent patches and Alexander's
patches to do the kernel-ntp.  That's what I'm running at the moment.

Hopefully, this all gets merged together and put in the kernel soon.
