I am running linux 2.6.34 and ntp 4.2.6 with no additional patches; my gps
clock is a Garmin 18 lvc that is inside the house. It does lose sync with
the gps constellation every once in a while.

My experience is that ntp will sync initially with gps, lose sync after a
time and reject all sources of time, and then after a few hours finally
start accepting the gps time again. I've just gotten used to waiting for
a while for ntp to get in sync. Once it does get in sync it seems to
follow temperature changes and gps signal loss ok.

For what it is worth, I have a 64 bit machine configured with HZ=100 and
CONFIG_NO_HZ not set; there is also have a 32 bit machine configured with
HZ=1000 and CONFIG_NO_HZ=y. Both machines seem to behave about the same,
though it does seem the 1000 hz box follows temperature changes a little
better.
