Ok, I rebooted the GPS receiver and restarted ntpd. Now I get a NMEA
string into ntpd and a pps pulse. It should do that as it only gives me
the string I configured it for meaning that it will also still know that
i asked it to give a pps pulse.
ntpd is receiving the nmea stream:
keetweej:/usr/src/linuxpps-current# ntpq -c pe

verified the pps ping:
keetweej:/usr/src/linuxpps-current# test/ppstest 1
found PPS source #1 "pps_8250_1" on "/dev/ttyS1"
<nothing>
so something is still wrong

So after that I switched to PPS only:

fudge   127.127.22.0 flag3 1         # enable PPS API

Folkert van Heusden

*) Udo: you see? gps is waaay off compared to other sources on the net and my local DCF77 receiver
   so that is why one should use gps only for PPS
