[LinuxPPS] do we need hardpps?

It seems Alexander Gordeev has already put together a patch for that?

So the question would rather be whether it should be merged into LinuxPPS...
He also posted something on this list in October, but I don't remember 
seeing _any_ feedback. Has anyone tried his patches?

The way they are right now, they are only confusing. And considering 
they have been there and unused (not even compiled) for an eternity, 
they are unlikely to ever work again without change because everything 
around them has changed.
