Rodolfo,

I think you speak about features like ldisc, where you got opinions back and 
forth because these were hot topics for others.

1.) Real readout of a /dev/xyz is standard unix behavior.
Do you know about other devices, returning -EN... on read() ?

2.) It's not prohibited by RFC, something or someone else.

3.) Your Software is not limited to PPS.
For PPS you have ntp to coop with (and you do fine).
For others it is far easier to have a readable /dev/pps*.

4.) Last, (not least :-) ) George and me like it to have.

5.) Perhaps it is good to ask John Stultz for advise.
There may be something (interface, format ...?) clock-related, which is better 
know before.
Should I ask him?
